THE GREAT BARRIER REEF

The Great Barrier Reef, which is 2,000 kilometers long, is the largest coral reef in the world. It is the only living thing on earth that can be seen from space with the naked eye and it is blessed with the breathtaking beauty of the coral reef. Where is the Great Barrier Reef? - The marine park (which is a multiple-use area that supports a range of communities that depend on the Reef for recreation or their livelihoods) stretches over 3000 kilometers almost parallel to the Queensland coast, up past the tip of Cape York. The reef, between 15 kilometres and 150 kilometres off shore and around 65 Km wide.
The reef have tropical islands with some of the worlds most beautiful sunny, golden beaches. One island is the Haggerstone Island. She is located on the Great Barrier Reef, about 600 kilometers north of Cairns alongside the rugged Cape York Peninsula. It is an exclusive island where you can enjoy the beauty of nature. Another island is the Dunk Island. She is the largest of the Family Islands Group. Fitzroy Island is one of the most unspoilt islands beside to the Great Barrier Reef. There are more islands: The Daydream Island, the Bedarra Island, the Brampton Island, the Great Keppel Island, the Green Island, the Hamilton Island, the Hayman Island, the Hinchinbrook Island, the Lindeman Island, the Long Island, the Lizard Island and the South Molle Island.

The reef have 1,500 species of fish, 200 species of birds and 400 species of corals. Also there are Dolphins, whales, sea snakes and saltwater crocodiles.

So you see the Great Barrier Reef is so amazing, so beautiful, so fantastic. But Sadly, now the Reef is in danger. The whole world, also the oceans around Australia, are getting warmer. So the corals will die if the water temperature rises. Already by more than a few degrees. The pollution from rivers, farms and cities on the coast, more tourists and overfishing are other dangers to the reef. So if that goes on the corals will have died by 2050.
